Candidate Questionnaire

League of Women Voters of Montgomery County

The League of Women Voters of Montgomery County is publishing a print and online Voters Guide (Vote411.org) so voters can compare candidates' positions side by side. Each candidate writes their own answers — the League doesn't edit them — and each response is capped at 400 characters, so the answers below are necessarily brief. The League plans to publish all candidates' responses in early October 2026.

Background

What would you like people to know about you?

I am a husband, father of three Conroe ISD students, IT professional, and longtime community volunteer. My wife taught in CISD for 12 years, so our family's commitment to public education is personal. I am running to restore trust, support teachers, improve student outcomes and wellbeing, and bring transparent, accountable governance back to the board.

Qualifications

What training, experience and characteristics qualify you for this position?

I bring 10 years of board leadership as president of my MUD and HOA, 20 years in IT, and experience in budgeting, governance, infrastructure, cybersecurity, risk management, and long-term planning. I serve as Parent Co-Chair of CISD's 72-member SHAC, regularly attend board meetings, and closely study district policy, budgets, and student outcomes.

Opportunities

Based on the District's latest improvement plan, what do you see as the greatest opportunities for improvement and how do you see the Board supporting the improvement plan?

The district's latest DIP was unfortunately abandoned. The greatest opportunity is refocusing CISD on measurable student outcomes, safety, mental health, teacher retention, and campus support. The board should publicly monitor plan goals, review data in open meetings, ask clear questions, align budgets to priorities, and hold district leadership accountable for steady, visible progress.

Supporting Teachers

What do you see as the most pressing issues facing the District's teachers? What actions can the Board take to better support teachers?

Trust and confidence in district leadership. Teachers face workload pressure, morale concerns, retention challenges, and too little voice in decisions affecting classrooms. The board should listen directly to educators, protect planning time, support competitive pay, reduce unnecessary burdens, improve campus support, and ensure curriculum and policy decisions include meaningful teacher input.

Challenges

What do you view as the biggest challenge facing the District in the next several years and what actions will you support to meet that challenge?

The biggest challenge is rebuilding trust while managing budget pressure, flat enrollment, and staff retention. I will support transparent decisions, careful budget review, advocacy for better state funding, stronger teacher and campus support, and a renewed focus on student achievement, wellbeing, and confidence in our public schools.

Future Voters

Assess how the District prepares students to participate in their country's democracy and describe what the Board can do to support these efforts.

Students need strong civics education, respectful discussion, and real opportunities to understand local, state, and national government. The board can support this by protecting balanced instruction, encouraging student voice, supporting civic awareness, and modeling transparent, respectful, accountable public governance. This includes participation in district committees where available.
